Very welcome news was received today that TransPennine Express will commence a new service through Northumberland in December this year of 5 trains each way per day, calling at Morpeth Alnmouth & Berwick. Some trains will also serve Cramlington & Widdrington and indeed the aspiration is they all will once timing allowances can be resolved. But we remain cautious about the long term position. We still want to see TPE as an hourly semi-fast, with their trains linking through to Leeds and Manchester, and a separate hourly electric local service that will serve all the smaller stations and allow some new ones such as Belford to be added.
