Northern have announced they intend to introduce car parking charges at Alnmouth. SENRUG believes that paying to park the car is a deterrent to travelling by train, and the £1.50 charge (but note that at Morpeth, the charge was soon increased yet further shortly after its introduction) adds 11% to the cost of a standard single ticket to Newcastle. Yet the situation is complex, as charges already apply to the Council’s car park the other side of the station.
