Excellent Public Meeting this evening with Christian Wolmar, columnist with Rail magazine, commentator and author of several rail-related books. Before the meeting itself, SENRUG Committee member Peter Strong and myself took Christian on a road tour of the Northumberland Line, also showing Christian some of our proposals for future extensions such as Ashington – Woodhorn – Newbiggin and Morpeth – Choppington – Bedlington. The tour also presented an opportunity to discuss the rather bizarre station designs particularly at Ashington, Bebside and Seaton Delaval which will leave the station entrances several hundred yards from the nearest bus stops on the adjacent main roads. Looking forward to the next Rail magazine in which, hopefully, the project will get a comment in Christian’s column.
