SENRUG believes the existing, operational freight lines between Marchey’s House Junction and North Blyth should be used to provide a new rail service between Ashington and Cambois, extending on to North Blyth.
The route would assist in the redevelopment of the area; good transport links will encourage companies to re-locate to the area, bringing much needed jobs and supporting further housing development.
SENRUG suggests the service should be provided by electric light rail units which would share the tracks with the freight trains.
North Blyth services could use the bay platform at Ashington, which would not be needed once Northumberland Line trains are extended to Newbiggin
