LATEST NEWS
Bedlington Station opened on Sunday 29th March 2026, completing the Northumberland Line project as signed off by the former Secretary of State in March 2023, concluding a 3 year construction phase and a 21 year SENRUG campaign, which started when SENRUG first put forward its plans for opening the line back in March 2005. Thank you to all the SENRUG members and supporters for standing with us and giving us the encouragement to keep going. What a tremendous success this is. Attention now turns to extensions and improvements both to the Northumberland Line and for other rail services in the area – head over to our Campaigns page for details.
Northumberland Line – Better Bus Connections: New bus 3 starts from 23rd March 2026, offering 3 morning journeys from Blyth Bus station via Cowpen to Blyth Bebside station, and 3 evening return journeys. The timetable can be downloaded here. In addition, from 22nd March, following a request from SENRUG, times of Bus 19 will change to better connect with Northumberland Line trains at Northumberland Park station – times can be downloaded here. A request from SENRUG to also extend the 19 from Cramlington Manor Walks to Cramlington station was sadly not possible, though we understand the request has been left on file in case it becomes possible in future
Lumo Launches to Glasgow: Some Lumo trains now extend beyond Edinburgh to Haymarket, Falkirk High and Glasgow Queen Street. On Mondays to Fridays, this is the 15:21 and 17:22 from Morpeth (15:08 and 17:08 from Newcastle). On Sundays it’s 19:21 from Morpeth (19:07) from Newcastle. There’s only 1 return journey per day at present: On Mondays – Fridays departs Glasgow Queen Street at 18:18 and 09:22 on Sundays. See the full Lumo timetable here.
Minor LNER Timetable Tweak (May 2026): Following a request from SENRUG, LNER have advised they will be re-establishing the connection from the first morning southbound train from Berwick, Alnmouth and Morpeth on to the Flying Scotsman service to London (now also calls at York). It has not been possible to buy through tickets since December as the connection time at Newcastle had been cut from 8 minutes to 7 – and the ticket booking software requires a minimum of 8 minutes to offer a through ticket. We are grateful to LNER for their positive response to SENRUG on this point.
