Bedlington Station Road Works, Level Crossing Closures and Bus Diversions: Northumberland County Council have advised us the current works on Station Road (including the level crossing closure) are due to complete on Friday 8th August, with the next phase of works then starting on Saturday 9th August.  The next phase will see a closure of Ravensworth Street on a short section close to the station site.  This phase of works is expected to last for 10 days and work will be ongoing 24/7 so that it’s complete as quickly as possible to avoid disruption for local businesses. Buses will be on diversion during this time, and a free shuttle bus for the stops on Stakeford Road during the 10 day closure and this will link to the Clayton Arms stop so that customers can change onto the local bus network.. Further details, including the bus diversions and the free shuttle bus are on the Northumberland Line website here.

Evening Car Parking Charges Slashed at Cramlington & Morpeth: Following lobbying from SENRUG, Northern have significantly reduced the cost of parking at Cramlington and Morpeth stations after 16:00 hours. At Cramlington it is now just 60p, whereas at Morpeth it’s now £1.10. These rates apply until 08:00 am the next morning. The new rates may not be clear from the signage but should nevertheless be available within Northern’s Ringo app – but should you find this is not the case please let SENRUG know. Morpeth customers should note that if parking after 18:00 it is free in the Council’s car park the other side Coopies Lane. But SENRUG considers the first train to Newcastle after 18:00 is too late for most city centre evening activities, and the Council have not yet replied to SENRUG’s request to bring forward the time from which free parking starts. So although still not free as SENRUG had requested, the reduced evening charges from Northern are very much welcome.

Northumberland Line Now Open: Passenger rail service between Newcastle and Ashington commenced on 15th December 2024 with Seaton Delaval as an intermediate stop. Newsham station opened later on 17th March 2025. Alternate weekday trains also call at Manors. Bedlington, Bebside, and the Metro interchange station at Northumberland Park are all still under construction and will be opened at later stages. The line opens 19 years after the SENRUG campaign first began in March 2005. For the full timeline from the launch of the campaign in March 2005 to the present day see here. Additionally. we recommend Riku Fryderyk’s impressive 10 minute video of the opening, which you can view on her youtube channel here (you might need to skip through some adverts before the video starts). With the Northumberland Line now open, partially at least, SENRUG has fully updated it’s Campaigns page, to reflect our current priorities.
