Today I met Cllr Richard Wearmouth, Deputy Leader of Northumberland County Council. We had a very useful catch-up, including progress on the Northumberland Line, where construction work is continuing with completion expected late 2023 or early 2024, even though we’ve yet to have the final funding announcement. We also discussed further extensions to the core Northumberland Line project, where I was pleased to note the Council’s and SENRUG’s aspirations are virtually identical, along with prospects for developing the Newcastle – Berwick local service proposal, passenger rail services to Cambois and better rail connectivity to Newcastle Airport. Altogether a very useful and constructive meeting.
