Today, myself, SENRUG Committee Member Dave Shaw, and Andy Comfort – a journalist from Rail Magazine walked the route of the proposed Northumberland Line extension from the A189 Spine Road rail bridge into Newbiggin. Just to demonstrate no roads to cross and plenty of room for a simple station, either in the footprint of the former one, or more preferably slightly to the north and just behind the Sports Centre. This followed a rather negative and poorly informed paragraph from a different journalist a month or so back, which prompted me to offer to the Editor to send someone to come and walk the route with me. They did! So thanks to Rail for listening to what I said and actioning it, and we’re looking forward to Andy’s article soon appearing in about 2 week’s time.
