Public Meeting with LNER

Despite atrocious weather, and a string of emails and phone calls during the day giving me apologies, our turn-out was excellent. After the presentations from Ed Turner and Malcolm Knight, there was a lively question and answer session, mostly on issues to do with the new timetable. We can’t claim to be in agreement with LNER on this one, but it was interesting to hear the constraints, and hopefully LNER picked up some of our issues too, such as the hefty price increase for advance tickets for journeys which, from December, will involve a change of trains. Not all the discussion however was on the timetable: other issues such as catering and the re-siting of the ticket office at Newcastle were raised. And of course, SENRUG also commended LNER and the rail industry as a whole for the astonishingly rapid and professional response to the horrific incident at Huntingdon and our warmest wishes to the front line staff involved. Finally of course we finished the evening for thanking Ed & Malcolm for giving up their time in coming to speak to us, which was greatly appreciated.
